Black salesman gets more than 30 years in prison for the violent rape of a woman in her home

During the trial, Judge Karin Immergut found that David Samuel Washington, 29, forced his way into a woman’s home in October 2005. He dragged the woman upstairs to a more secluded area of the home and raped her. He also stuffed a glove in her mouth to muffle her screams, punched her in the stomach, slapped her in the face and choked her to the point where she blacked out. He threatened to kill the woman if she reported the incident to police. The judge found him guilty of first-degree burglary, kidnapping and rape. In justifying the lengthy prison sentence, Immergut found that Washington was deliberately cruel and excessively violent. She said that the woman, who spoke little English and reportedly didn’t know how to use 9-1-1, was a vulnerable victim. The judge also determined that Washington has a persistent involvement in crime, including a random gunpoint carjacking of a woman in Tennessee. “Mr. Washington is a brutal sexual predator,” Immergut said.
