Research results suggest that prostate cancer grows more rapidly and progresses from latent to aggressive disease earlier in blacks than in whites

Prostate cancer seems to be biologically and genetically more aggressive in black males than in white men. The prevalence of extensive high-grade disease by the age of 40 years or older was significantly greater in blacks than in whites, at 46% versus 29%. Data shows that black males are four times more likely to develop distance metastases between the ages of 40 and 49 years than white men. Factors such as obesity and hypertension impact prostate cancer development, and rates of these are more prevalent among blacks than among whites.
